In an extremely deep backbend, the rectus abdominus will be stretched, even when engaged, so the lower ribs will 'flare' to a small extent. The important thing is to keep the muscles engaged. In these extreme backbends it's actually the pelvic alignment and support from the transverse abdominis that gives us stability and the ability to come safely in and out of the poses. Hope that helped!Yogini Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787351711548823249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7820442653366529983.post-32785102017829442402013-12-28T00:24:09.399+11:002013-12-28T00:24:09.399+11:00Great info! Always engage the rectus abdominus?doverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16886024552336054590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7820442653366529983.post-63179279701318094672013-03-01T10:22:23.873+11:002013-03-01T10:22:23.873+11:00Hi Korakel, thanks for reading and commenting! I will definitely do a post on your question, probably in 2 weeks from now as I have another reader request lined up for next week. :) Oh, and I definitely know what you mean about FEELING a pose, which is much more important than what a pose looks like!Yogini Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787351711548823249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7820442653366529983.post-74536607522828223772013-02-28T01:10:20.428+11:002013-02-28T01:10:20.428+11:00Thank you! The pictures made me more aware of what a pose looks like, but also helped imagine what it should feel like (if that makes any sense..). <br />I'd love some tips on how to keep a straight leg without locking the knees in balance poses. korakelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06239024345821107074noreply@blogger.com
