Yoga Gypsy headers over the years
Intention
I began writing Yoga Gypsy in 2009, as part of my preparation for my first yoga teacher training. Part of our pre-course study included writing short essays on various topics related to yoga, and I wanted a forum to share my reflections.
I wrote in my first-ever post:
"I'm reading a wonderful book at the moment by Lama Surya Das, an American Buddhist monk. In the chapter on generosity, he outlines the four traditional ways for sharing the Dharma - whatever wisdom is yours to share. They are:
1. Share generously of yourself.
2. Engage in meaningful discussions with others about what is of true benefit to them.
3. Encourage others to implement and internalize what they have learned.
4. Lead by example.
This blog is the first: sharing generously of myself."
Back then I could hardly have dreamed that 3 years later I would still be blogging, and not only that, but have found a doorway into what is the wonderful online community. As a teacher in a relatively isolated setting, the yoga blogsphere has been an incredible source of support and wisdom to me. I am constantly humbled by my interactions with the truly excellent teachers and inspiring students of yoga out there!
As is often the way, when you put an intention out into the universe, it realises itself. In many ways this blog has become all four of the above - for which I am grateful and humbled.
Teachings
I am a certified yoga teacher (500 hours) with over 1,000 hours of teaching experience. However, ONLY YOU truly know yourself and your body. In practicing any of the poses or sequences shown on the blog, please use self-awareness, caution, and respect your limits. If you're not sure about something or it doesn't feel right, or if you have injuries or a medical/health condition, consult a yoga teacher or physician first. Remember: you are your own best teacher!
The values of Yoga Gypsy
This blog is:
- An ad-free, promotion-free, spam-free zone.
- A safe space, where everyone will be treated with respect and compassion.
- A space that honours equally yoginis and yogis of all disciplines, genders, ethnicities, body shapes, ages and spiritual practices.

What is the name of the book mentioned here?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
It's called "Buddha is as Buddha does: the ten original practices for enlightened living." It's a great book about incorporating Buddhist principles into every day life. Totally recommended!
